Music Theory For Electronic Musicmakers
An Online Course
Electronic Musicmakers! Do you get lost when trying to come up with chord sequences, melodies and harmonies? Do you often wish you knew more music theory? But you aren't sure how to learn it? This course is for you.
Watch This Video:
You will ONLY learn music theory that is relevant to your making of electronic music. My whole journey in music was getting into techno and then studing jazz for decades to work out the things I think are important for making electronic music, so I am sure it will all be practical and relevant for you too.
Feedback for ZOiD's first course, Foundations for Electronic Musicmakers:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
"I had been wanting to learn more about music production for a while but have always felt put off by the kind of guys promoting courses. This course has been the antidote to all that aggressive noise in the production world."

🎶 Intervals
The building blocks of all music. The distances between the notes.
Do you know what the sound of each interval is like? Do you know which ones you prefer? Which ones Aphex uses a lot? Let's find out!
🎛 Harmony
Harmony is the big one. Squarepusher said so! There is so much to it.
We'll split it into keys, scales, and chords. You will learn how to come up with great chord sequences every time, and easily find a scale to match them.
🎵 Melody Writing
How to come up with really great melodies? We'll look at some examples of great melodies, and what makes them great. There is a bit of mystery in a great melody!
🎛 Rhythm
THE single most important thing in music! Most Western music theory systems don't put much importance on rhythm. They are wrong. It's huge. It's everything. Let's learn all about polyrhythms, polymeters, poly all sorts of stuff. triplets. they're cool. Odd meters. Why is everything in 4/4?
🎵 Timbre
Another one that is ignored by most Western music theorists. Timbre is the quality of sound. It is incredible complex and non-linear unlike pitch and rhythm. You cannot make a piano note 3 clicktweaks more guitar-like. But you CAN understand what timbre is and HOW it is affecting the rest of the composition
If you want to learn all this and more:
🎶 Find and refine your own unique musical voice
So that you can express who you really are through your music
🎛 Develop sound design techniques
So you can create the sounds that you imagine in your head
🎵 Become more confident and express yourself with authenticity.

ABOUT ME
Learn from 30 Years of Experience
My name is Daniel Jacobson (aka ZOiD). I've been making music almost as long as I can remember.
I started out with a cheap synth and desktop computer in the 90s and figured out how to make music with them. Since then I've tried almost every DAW out there, a lot of hardware and modular gear, and studied the hell out of the guitar!
I've learned invaluable lessons about music production from mentors such as Funk d'Void, Red Rack'em and Jordan GCZ, shaping a unique sound of my own that has led to releases on labels like Metamorphic (Dan Curtin's label), Winthorpe Electronics, and D1, alongside running my own label, Zoitrax. I've also ran my own music school for 10 years in Dublin, teaching 1000s of students in that time.
Want to know the #1 thing I've learned in all this time? You don't need any fancy gear, expensive equipment or to study at a famous college to make music that is genuine, yourself, and sounds good enough to get released on the world's best labels.
I personally know many people who did it without any of those things. Also, almost all of our musical heroes did it without those things! From Robert Hood to Aphex, when they started out, they could afford barely any equipment, and they still changed the world with their music through sheer determination and passion.
But those guys didn't need to do a course... they were driven enough to make music every day until they became great. If you aren't like them (I know I'm not) then you can benefit from a course like this to show you the fundamentals - and then the sky is the limit with what you can achieve.
Course Requirements
The course is delivered with video content that you can watch at your own pace. There are assignments to do each month. One month per module is my recommended pace but you can go faster or slower if you prefer!

Course Requirements:
1. You have a DAW (like Ableton, Logic, Reaper, FL Studio or similar) OR a hardware setup with keyboard and drum sounds
2. You are able to make a simple sequence
This is a music theory course, but looked at from the point of view of the electronic musicmaker. You can use the concepts in your music however you want. We will not look at production techniques in this course.
If you need help with production techniques, check out my other course Foundations For Electronic Musicmakers
What You'll Gain:
1. Master the fundamentals of music theory
2. Understand Harmony, Melody, Rhythm and Timbre at a much higher level
3. Take part in Q+A sessions and discussions on music theory
4. Stay motivated and inspired with your musicmaking

Is This You?
"ZOiD's 7 month electronic music makers course is fantastic. This course is about finding your own musical voice. It's about finding inspiration from your own life and using it to create electronic music. The course covers the basics of electronic music production but encourages you to develope your own sound in each module. Module 1 will be something I will return to many many times."

"ZOiD is a fantastic tutor and I'd recommend this course to anyone needing guidance or inspiration in terms of generating and developing song ideas or those seeking to improve their production, arrangement and sound design skills.
Although the emphasis is on electronic music, the principles taught here are applicable across all genres. I picked up some skills that have opened up new ways of working and this was just from Module 1!
What I really appreciate is ZOiD's concise presentation style. His experience is immediately apparent. There is no waffle - just direct, no nonsense tutorials and relevant assignments that help recap each module.
ZOiD is helpful, enthusiastic, positive, approachable and encouraging. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this course to everyone from first timers to more experienced artists - even chancer hobbyist DIYers like myself! Honestly, if you are even vaguely thinking about doing this course, just go for it - you won't regret it.💃🕺🏻🎹🎧"
